Why is this important?
It’s not. Well, it depends on who you are and what you’re looking for. If you don’t want the other people to know, or if you would rather keep things private, then don’t do it. Simple.
The value in creating a ‘now page’ is that it tells the world what you’re working on. If someone is struggling on the same project, perhaps they can come to you for advice. Or, if they see you working on something they had done before, they can offer some help or advice.
It also serves as a public reminder of what your priorities are. By declaring what you’re working on, it forces you to evaluate yourself. Are you listing down petty stuff? Is what you’re currently working on important? Are you perhaps not doing anything right now? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, just make sure you’re okay with what you’re doing. That you have your priorities right.
As you declare your current work, you hold yourself accountable for it. As irrational human beings, we break promises with ourselves all the time. But we hardly break promises with other people. Our justification is that we only let ourselves down when we break our own promises. But we let others down when we break their promises.
The simple cure for that? Declare to the world what you’re up to and keep updating it. You don’t want to tell the world “this is what I’m working on”, only to let them down by not doing it right?
This is my ‘now page‘, feel free to have a look. If you ask me what I’m up to, that’s what I’ll answer. Perhaps you can consider doing the same as well, there’s tremendous benefits to writing a ‘now page’ if you utilize it fully.
